The city of Johannesburg is on the Highveld plateau, and its climate is subtropical highland. The country is both temperate and subtropical as it is moderated by ocean on three sides of the country – but it has overall warm temperate conditions. It is also a relatively dry country, with an average annual rainfall of less than 500 mm.
